A Landmark Creative Collaboration

As part of our longstanding partnership with Blenheim Palace, we were proud to be involved in this impressive 280-square-metre mural installation showcasing the work of 30 talented emerging artists from Oxford, aged between eight and 25-years-old. This beautiful amalgamation of artwork highlights the transformative impact of creativity on a monumental building wrap.

The design was created as part of Blenheim’s partnership with local charity Oxfordshire Youth. Visual artist Kate Turnbull was commissioned to lead interactive creative sessions at the Palace and help the young people bring their vision of this UNESCO World Heritage Site to life.

Producing the building wrap

Working alongside Creative Gravy, we produced an impressive 12-metre-high tensile material building wrap designed to conceal restoration works taking place at the Flagstaff Tower. The finished mural combines drawings, digital imagery and text such as poetry.

Printed on our Durst 512R machine, the mural was then carefully stitched together to create the final, inspiring vision, with seamless finish ready for its installation.

The impressive building wrap took the team three days to construct, one day to install the wrap and two days to build the framework behind it. Erecting the 12-metre-high banner presented its own specific challenges, least of all the sweltering weather conditions which greeted installers! In addition, due to there being no boarding on the scaffolding, we had to get creative, with installers using rope access to reach the top of the artwork and ensure a perfect finish.

Showcasing Craftsmanship & Creativity

This project demonstrates the level of detail, collaboration and craftsmanship involved in every installation we produce, and particularly with building wraps. The completed wrap not only concealed the restoration works behind it, but also created an inspiring showcase for emerging artistic talent, bringing colour and creativity to one of the UK’s most iconic heritage locations.

Mike Hamling, Group Account Director, said “This is a new high for our partnership with Blenheim Palace. Not only is it our biggest installation to date with them but it is also fantastic to support such a great cause such as Oxfordshire Youth and witness young artists take inspiration from seeing their designs in situ. Our team worked so hard to bring this to life and I think we’ve created something that we can all be very proud of.”
