Building Wrap in the Heart of Marylebone
In one of London’s most prestigious neighbourhoods, extensive refurbishment works presented a familiar challenge: how do you minimise the visual impact of large-scale scaffolding in a high-footfall location? A Building Wrap!
Working on behalf of GPF Lewis for The Howard De Walden Estate, this project demonstrates how expertly delivered building wraps can completely transform a complex scaffold structure into a striking visual installation while works continue behind the scenes.
Spanning approximately 525sqm across three substantial elevations, the project required bespoke planning, specialist installation expertise and an exceptionally fast turnaround.
A Complex Scaffold Structure Unlike Standard Building Wrap Projects
This was far from a typical building wrap installation.
The scaffold design incorporated a series of technically demanding features including:
- A facetted corner elevation
- Multiple lifts and stair access points
- Large gantry sections
- Irregular structural geometry
These elements created significant challenges when designing and installing the building wrap, particularly as the project specification called for a solid banner material rather than traditional perforated mesh.
While solid materials deliver a far superior printed finish and sharper visual appearance, they also increase wind loading on the scaffold and require much greater precision to achieve a smooth, tensioned finish across the structure.
The result, however, is a dramatically more premium-looking installation!
Collaboration Was Critical from Day One
Due to the complexity of the scaffold, collaboration played a vital role throughout the project.
Working closely with GESS, we attended on-site planning meetings alongside the scaffold contractor, GPF Lewis and The Howard De Walden Estate to assess the structure in detail and establish exactly what could be achieved safely and effectively.
Our complete service included:
- Supplying and installing the support frame system
- Collaborating with the client team on artwork fit and amendments
- Producing the large-format printed building wraps
- Full installation on site
Every aspect of the project was carefully coordinated to ensure the finished wraps enhanced the surrounding streetscape while working seamlessly with the scaffold design.
