At Moss, we’re always looking for ways to bring new talent into the business, either as an intern, full-time position or more – especially from people who might not follow the traditional career path. As part of our continuous improvement work, we’ve been getting more involved with local schools, careers fairs and community initiatives, and that’s how we found ourselves connecting with a brilliant organisation called Inspire 2 Ignite.

What started as a chance meeting at a school event has grown into a really rewarding partnership – and now, our first intern from their network has joined the team.

A different kind of talent programme

Inspire 2 Ignite is a community interest company that helps young people – particularly those not in education, employment or training – build skills, confidence and direction. They’re deeply embedded in the local community, with a hub in St. Neots that’s become a lifeline to many. What struck us straight away was how different their approach was. It wasn’t about ticking boxes. It was about helping people thrive.

We started by supporting them through sponsorship, but it’s grown from there. We’ve hosted open days, taken part in business leader events, and now, thanks to a new model launched in partnership with the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA), we’ve been able to offer a fully supported internship.

And more importantly, a stepping stone into real careers in installations and production.

Meet Freddie

Freddie joined us on 2nd June 2025, completing a week of paid work experience, whilst waiting for the CPCA to get the internship model successfully up and running. From the beginning, he stood out. He was so keen to get started that he handed in his notice at his previous job before the internship was even confirmed, and that kind of motivation is exactly what we want to see! His internship then began on the 9th June.

Making an impact from day one

Freddie’s already contributed to some high-profile projects and has been out on site at places like Tobacco Dock, Goodwood and Silverstone. With more exciting projects lined up too!

He’s also quickly become someone the team can rely on. Hannah Attfield has been brilliant in managing his schedule, whilst Simon Clarke has provided mentorship and support on site. With their help, Freddie’s hit the ground running – he’s flexible, hardworking, and totally engaged.

Recognising the journey

Freddie recently completed his first work review, and the feedback couldn’t have been better. He’s been praised for his punctuality, communication and enthusiasm, as well as how well he’s adapted to the unsociable hours that often comes with install work.

He’s also already earned one of his digital badges – a modern accreditation that helps young people evidence real-world experience and transferable skills. These micro-credentials are becoming increasingly valuable, especially for those without formal qualifications, and it’s great to see him making progress so quickly.

It’s another example of how we can open doors to careers in print that young people might never have considered – and help them find confidence in a fast-moving industry.

Looking ahead

For us, this internship is about more than just one placement. It’s about creating a model that allows young people to explore careers in print, production and installation – and gives us a chance to bring in fresh talent we might otherwise never meet.

Thanks to the support of our leadership team, and the dedication of our partners at Inspire 2 Ignite and the CPCA, we’ve been able to make this happen. We weren’t actively looking to launch an internship programme, but once we saw the potential, it was an easy decision.

We’ve got the infrastructure; we’ve got the people, and now we’ve got the opportunity to keep doing more of this. So thank you to everyone involved, and especially to Freddie, for making such a strong start. He’s been the perfect person to trailblaze this scheme, and we’re excited to see where it goes next.
