Introduction to the Carbon Calculator

In a first for the UK large format industry, global place maker Moss has launched its new Carbon Calculator, providing an accurate and fully verified Carbon Emissions Report for each graphics and branding project commissioned by its clients.

Carbon insights at no extra cost

Provided at no extra cost, the tool will precisely calculate the carbon emissions of each material, vehicle and installation process used in every print project. Clients will be given a true and accurate summary of their project’s entire emissions footprint from the outset and enable easier evaluation of potential alternatives.

End-to-end carbon transparency

Expressed in CO2e, Moss’ innovative and comprehensive tool calculates the impact of each material selected, its printing, installation and transportation. All data has been mapped to Moss UK’s material stock system and independently checked and verified by sustainability consultants, Green Circle Solutions. The background information provides deep dive analytics of each print material and substrate, creating meaningful comparison data to understand the true impact of each product solution.

The ‘ready to go’ Carbon Emissions Report will ensure clients have the necessary Scope 3 data required by government carbon reporting regulations, saving time and money in producing this information themselves.

Driving sustainable choices through smart data

By providing accurate and ratified ‘end-to-end’ CO2e measurements for each project, Moss aims to both raise awareness and initiate new conversations about how to reduce carbon emissions across branding and print projects. For example, the carbon benefits of using solutions such as SustainaTex Ocean and the SustainaBacklit materials, made from recycled ocean plastic, compared to virgin products will be much clearer to see.

Announcing the launch of its new Carbon Emissions Tool, Moss UK’s Operations Director, Mark Rose was looking forward to being able to bring environmental impact to the forefront of each project and provide clients with the verifiable data they need to make better sustainability decisions.

“In this industry, information is power, and we are delighted to be able to provide our clients with accurate sustainability data for each product or service we supply. By making this an integral part of our quotations, they can now make informed and effective decisions in the reduction of their carbon footprint.”

A track record of results: cutting emissions by 16% and counting

Having lowered its carbon emissions by 16 percent per square metre since 2019, Moss aims to hit a 50 percent reduction by 2030 and thereafter drive on to net zero.

“Sustainability is key to our business in the UK and globally across the wider Moss Group,” concluded Mark. “By providing our clients with accurate facts and suitable alternative options, we are helping broaden their awareness of energy and carbon use and ultimately reducing the impact we all have as an industry.”
