We were invited to contribute to Marshmallow Laser Feast‘s installation at Kew Gardens, and what an opportunity it was! The project demanded an exceptional level of visual finish to match the artistic ambition and that’s where our expertise came in.
Identifying the Challenge
When the original vinyl didn’t fully meet the creative vision, it was clear a more refined solution was needed. The installation’s visual integrity hinged on eliminating visible joins and creating a seamless viewing experience.
Our Solution: Precision Meets Design
We approached the challenge with a blend of engineering precision and aesthetic sensitivity. We introduced a sleek metal perimeter frame, carefully fabricated to provide both stability and elegance, forming the backbone of the display. Onto this, we applied a tensioned PVC wrap, chosen for its ability to stretch perfectly across the frame without ripples or visible seams.
The clean edges and crisp presentation not only elevated the overall look but allowed the artworks intricate details and immersive atmosphere to take centre stage. Every decision was made with an eye on efficiency, minimal disruption, and delivering a final product that matched, and in some ways surpassed, the creative ambition.
Sustainability at the Forefront
Beyond aesthetics, we prioritised eco-aware choices. The materials selected were clean, ensuring no unnecessary waste during production or installation, and chosen with their environmental footprint in mind.
This approach aligned with Kew Gardens’ values and demonstrated that art installations can be both spectacular and environmentally conscious.
The Final Result: Mesmerising Design
The finished installation captivated audiences with its flawless presentation and immersive atmosphere. The visual flow was uninterrupted, enhancing the work’s sensory impact. Visitors experienced the piece exactly as intended, fully enveloped in the beauty of its surroundings as well.
